Preliminary results show Liberal candidate Will Greaves is Victoria’s new MP-elect, toppling the NDP stronghold which up until tonight, held the riding since 2006.
The newly elected Greaves told CHEK it was “an enormous honour” and thanked his more than 600 volunteers who pounded pavement and knocked on doors to speak with voters.
The final count of the votes will continue to trickle in and will be updated in the table below.
For the latest results for the Victoria riding, see the table below:
“I’ve personally knocked on hundreds and hundreds and as a team we’ve knocked on tens of thousands of doors right across the community over the last five weeks,” he said adding “I couldn’t be prouder of my team for what they’ve done.”

Geographically, the Victoria riding includes the B.C. capital, the municipality of Oak Bay, the southeastern portion of Saanich and the University of Victoria.
The Victoria riding has a population of 123,482, with 101,326 of those registered as voters. According to Elections Canada, 74.72 per cent of registered voters (75,715) turned out to vote in the Victoria riding. This does not include those who registered to vote on election day.
The Victoria riding has been a major NDP stronghold since 2006 and with a great deal of voters looking for change, even seemingly secure ridings like this one saw the winds of change Monday night.
NDP incumbent Laurel Collins lost to Liberal candidate Greaves. Trailing behind Collins were Conservative candidate Angus Ross and Green candidate Michael Doherty.
After B.C. polls closed at 7 p.m., results began to trickle in for the Victoria riding, with Liberal candidate, Greaves having a significant lead on all other candidates early on. The gap widened even further as the night continued. In a close battle for second are NDP’s Collins, slightly ahead of Conservative candidate Ross.
Victoria’s last Liberal MP to hold the riding gives his prediction
Monday night the Victoria riding’s Liberal watch party for candidate Greaves was held at the Victoria Scottish Community Centre.
Among those in attendance was David Anderson, the last Liberal MP to hold the riding of Victoria, up until 2006 before it became an NDP stronghold.
CHEK reporter, Mary Griffin was on site and asked for Anderson’s predictions on the night.

“I think it looks like a Liberal victory and Liberal majority government, which is probably a good thing given the problems we face at the moment,” said Anderson.
With Vancouver Island often playing a role in the federal election, Anderson weighed in on the Island’s ability to make waves in the federal election.
“It could well be Vancouver Island tonight providing the last votes to make a majority government and I certainly hope that’s the case. We tend to be stunted to the sidelines when we’re not part of the governing caucus in Ottawa,” he said.
“Victoria voters or Greater Victoria voters are more inclined to look at the candidate…And the candidate we have is excellent. The other candidates are excellent too,” said Anderson.
Among the candidates who battled for the Victoria riding were:
- Laurel Collins (NDP)*
- Michael Doherty (Green)
- Steve Filipovic (Independent)
- Cody Fraser (Parti Rhinocéros Party)
- Will Greaves (Liberal)
- David Mohr (PPC)
- Mary Moreau (Christian Heritage Party of Canada)
- Angus Ross (Conservative)
